| The history of our town has begun
a long time ago, in the years of the First Bulgarian Kingdom and the early
Middle Ages. The years have left unforgettable traces in the history of
our town that can be seen in the expositions of the Historical Museum. Nowadays, there is a number of new companies and business establishments that give a modern appearance of the town. Some of them are the Stock Market Place, a sheltered market, live stock market, meat and dairy manufacturing enterprises, wood-processing enterprises, wine factories, and many other industrial and trade units. After long years of creation our town has proved to be an important administrative and sports center of Bulgaria. It is geographically close to the Black Sea, the healing mineral springs of Sliven and Pavel Banya and the famous mud baths of Pomorie. Thirty-two sports clubs function in Sliven, as well as a state sports school, a sports medicine Medical Center. The municipality disposes of a large sports base that has been the training place of many prize holders of Olympic, World and European Championships. The basic sports are weightlifting, boxing, judo, track-and-field athletics, acrobatics, cycling, and of course, wrestling. The wrestling Sports Hall in the town is 700sq. m. It is provided with two individual mats, offices for competitors and trainers, as well as a sauna and a rehabilitation center. The sports hall in Karandila park has two mats, offices, a fitness center, a sauna, a restaurant and a hotel. The chair lift makes possible the connection between the town and the mountain sports base. The international transport connections of our town with neighbouring countries are carried out by plane at the airports of Bourgas and Plovdiv that are close to Sliven. There are luxury buses and minibuses too. We can also provide car transport to tourist places and other ones required by our guests. Restaurants are an integral part of the sports base. All kinds of ecologically clean food, characteristic for this region, can be prepared there. The hotel facilities fit the international standards for recreation and rehabilitation of sportsmen. There are also possibilities for supplementary extras and events. The medical establishments in the town can provide qualified help and treatment. The administrative infrastructure and institutions in the town will warmly support our guests and the polite hosts of the wrestling sports clubs Mayak 13 and Wrestling, together with their competitors and trainers, will welcome and support every sports initiative of yours. We truly believe that all this will make possible the training of the sportsmen and will help for their best position at the Olympics in Athens 2004. |
