Bulgaria is a small country but it is very popular with
its steady traditions in wrestling among young people as well as among adults.
Lately, women who practice wrestling, are highly recognised. Female wrestling
centers have been established in a number of towns in Bulgaria. Very popular are
the sportswomen from the towns of Kyustendil, Vratsa, Dimitrovgrad who actually
form our national teams. Of course there are some new female wrestling centers,
which are in search for their own place in the national, as well as in the world
wrestling. Such are the sportswomen from the towns of Yambol, Petrich, Samokov,
and of course Sliven. About 10-15 teams from the whole country take part in the
national Championship. Our representative teams of women, girls and cadets have
participated in every European and World Championship. The teams use a very good
training base and of course highly qualified trainers. Briefly, this is how things
are with female wrestling in Bulgaria, without going into further details about
names and positions, because they are well known and can be seen in the sites
of the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation. We would like to make a step forward concerning
collaboration, manifestation and exchange with wrestling teams of women, girls
and cadets from other countries. That is why we send this message /invitation/
in the Internet hoping to make connections for future joint trainings in camps
and bilateral events which will make our countries close and to place our sports
skills on a higher level. Her e is a brief introducing of our wrestling sports
club Mayak-13 from the region of Sliven. Mayak-13 is a comparatively new club,
established in 2000. It works basically with women and girls. It has about 50
competitors (men and women). President of the club is Mr. Lyubomir Sofiyanski.
Some of the leaders of the club are Mr. Valentin Naidenov ? manager, Mr. Krasimir

Hristov ? manager. Trainings take place in the town sports hall which is 700 sq.m..
It has two mats, bathrooms, changing-rooms. The competitions take place in VASIL
LEVSKI representative town hall which is 1400 sq. m. and has 1200 seats. This
year, on 26th October, which is the town's holiday, the beginning of a national
wrestling tournament for girls and juveniles THE HUNDRED VOIVODES was established.
Its host is the male wrestling sports club in the town of Sliven and its region.
President of the wrestling sports club, Sliven is Mr. Hristo Kolev. Apart from
the native and international sports calendars for bipartite events and camps,
we also use the time from 1.06 to 1.09. For this purpose we use our mountain bases,
the National Park KARANDILA which is 1000m, above sea - level. It is connected
with a chair lift to the town. We also use the bases at our seaside resorts, such
as Albena, Varna, Sunny Beach, Bourgas, etc. as well as the spa baths near Sliven,
Pomorie and Pavel Banya. Here is some more information about the climate, geography
and history of our town. It is situated in the southeastern part of Bulgaria and
has a population of about 150000 people. It is at the foot of the East Balkan
Mountains and is 300 km. Away from Sofia, 1000km. from Athens, 300 km. from Bucharest
and 200 km. from Istanbul. The town is 264m. above sea-level. The average temperatures
in June are 20 degrees Celcius, maximum 36.8; in July ? from 23 to 39.5 degrees;
in August ? from 22 to 41.8 degrees; at KARANDILA the average temperature is 16.4
degrees. The average humidity is 67% in June; 61% in July; 62% in August. The
history of our town has begun a long time ago, in the years of the First Bulgarian
Kingdom and the early Middle ages. Nowadays there are a number of new companies
and business establishments which give a modern appearance of the town. Our town
has proved to be an important administrative and sports center of Bulgaria as
well. The international transport connections of our town with neighboring countries
are carried out by plane at the airports of Bourgas and Plovdiv that are close
to Sliven. The inner and international transport is carried out by comfortable
and luxury trains, buses and taxis. There are 3 stars and 4 stars hotels and restaurants
and the sports base and equipment meets the international standards. The medical
care institutions, banks and post infrastructures are at a high level and would
not be a source of problems for our guests. Our future guests can also count on
the support of the city and district councils and of course the warm welcome and
support of MAYAK-13. We truly believe that our guests will get good conditions
for a useful collaboration and the possibility to achieve good sports results.
Here are the names of the competitors from the different age groups as well as
the governing body of MAYAK-13.
